I'm not sure how to best describe this interesting piece of family history. I don't know if the spoon is sterling, and don't want to remove it to look for marks from the cardboard backing that it was lovingly, hand sewn on to many years ago. There is a hand written note explaining the family history of the spoon. It was brought to America in 1869. From the note explaining that the spoon belonged to an ancestor of the woman who brought it to America, I would guess that the spoon, itself, dates to at least the very early 1800s.
