Unusual Vintage Hawaiian Coconut Trinket Box

Here's something you don't see every day, but surely everybody needs at least one! This is a hand cut and polished hollowed out coconut shell. It's resting on a piece of raw wood that has been cut out and the coconut set in. The lid has been scallop cut to fit with the bottom. There is a tropical nut that has been attached to the top of the head with a tiny screw. The coconut measures 4 by 5 inches, and is 3&1/2 deep. They eyes and mouth are glass beads. Etched in the wood base is a palm tree, and , "ALOHA". On the back it says, "Honolulu T.H.". These were popular souvenir items made by natives in Hawaii during the 1940's.

I have several other pieces of vintage Hawaiiana in my shop, and am happy to combine shipping. To view these items, type the word "Hawaiian" in the search box on the top of this page.
