LEGER: 18th Century French Miniature Courtship Scene Pastoral Themes

Beautiful hand painted miniature in oil dating from the 1700's, France. Idealized Romanticism at it's height, we are presented with a courting couple. The charming little blond number seated in a blue gown, under a tree and with sheep at her side, fending off the ardent advances of an eager suitor. The young man's hands laden with flowers, is also seated 'neath his lair lady. Is that one of Cupid's arrows in her hand? The sheep look happy, content and pleased with the touching scene. I swear that sheep is smiling. The colors are all pastels. The picture is framed and covered with glass. The frame a lovely piece of art in itself. A large pierced cartouche rests atop the dore bronze frame. The back covered with green velvet. It has an easel back. This piece is signed Leger.

Dimensions: The frame is 6" tall, 5.5" wide and stands 6".
