Exquisite Rare 12 Royal Worcester Dinner Plates: H. Davis Signed
Absolutely stunning set of 12 dinner plates, all hand painted and gilt, made expressly for Ovington's New York. Royal Worcester artist Harry Davis, notable indeed for his landscapes, painted and signed each of the unique pastoral landscape scenes in the center of each plate. Compared often to Monet, Davis' scenes constitute genuine works of fine art. Surrounding the central cartouche, on a sumptuous shade of green ground (lots of blue in this color), we find intricate and elaborate hand gilding, layers upon layers of encrusted, as well as acid etched, 22k gold. I tried in the last photo to give some sense of the peace and serenity this set evokes. The restful green ground combined with the subtle pastoral themes, combine to create a quite soothing influence. Your guests will be transfixed; stresses and strains of everyday living will slip away, as your company enters a relaxed and dreamy state that will enhance the evenings's conversation and bonhomie. Fabulous find for the collector of the most rare and elegant dinnerware.
Condition is pristine; I've searched and searched and I truly find no flaws. Not even a bit of loss to the thick gold 'beads' in the gilt decoration. The set comes with the original Ovington chamois plate separators. The plates are a generous 10.5" diameter. Each marked with the Royal Worcester overglaze, and "Made expressly for Ovington's".
