Spectacular Gold and Garnet Victorian Brooch, Detachable locket Pendant!

This gorgeous circa 1850 early Victorian brooch is a visual treat! It was fashioned out 14k gold, gilded with a glaze of apricot high karat gold, and studded with raspberry almadine garnets.

The bow embellished locket has a glass covered compartment which houses what appears to be a finely woven plait of hair. Best of all, you can easily detach the locket to wear as a pendant!

The entire piece is in excellent condition. The stones are closed backed, save one, which appears to have possibly been replaced or reset. If replaced, it was a perfect color match. My gemologist examined them under a microscope and stated they appeared to be genuine. A 14k safety clasp was a later addition.

The gilding is in excellent condition, and the only real wear to it is where the pendant swings. This tiny patch of exposed underlying pinker metal is where the metal was tested. When rubbed on a testing stone, it was unaffected by 14k acid. The gilding is very high karat (my jeweler doesn't have over 20k, so we know its at least 20k) It measures 2 1/8" in length by 1 5/8" wide. The locket alone is 7/8" long. It is shown on a fine rope chain for illustration purposes (chain not included or original) It weighs about 8 grams.

This is a fabulous piece worthy of an advanced collection!
