Francis Foy Dalstrom Watercolor c. 1935 dated signed and provenance
She was commissioned by the U.S. Treasury during the New Deal administration to paint a mural for the Chicago Chestnut Street Post Office. The painting is titled: Advent of the Pioneers 1851. It was painted in 1938 and now hangs in the east lobby of the Chicago Main Post Office. Her works can also be found in the Smithsonian.
This watercolor work is signed in pencil on the painting. Francis Foy Dalstrom created a Christmas card in order to "gift" the painting to her son's babysitter Anita. The Christmas tag or card is an etching of her son Lars writing Merry Xmas 1935 and his own name (Lars) on the window. On the bottom it reads: To Anita from Lars. There is a sticker on the back of the painting which reads: Painted by Mrs Frances Foy Dalstrom. Anita used to babysit for her son Lars.
Whoever should purchase this delightful painting will get two works (the painting and the etching/ Christmas Tag) for the price of one. The painting measures 10 1/2" high x 7 1/2" wide. The frame itself measures 15 1/4" height x 18 1/4" wide. The painting is behind glass, so please excuse any glare on the painting.
