Indian War Period 1880's Or Frontier War Period Triangular Bayonet Scabbard to fit old musket bayonets still in use at the time.
Patent information is embossed clearly on top and visible since I scraped off the paint from the top edge after the photo was taken: McKenney's Pat. JAN 12 1886 .
Brass Medallion "NGP" Denotes : National Guard Pennsylvania property.
The belt sling swivel is still Movable Leather and the blade pat of scabbard is Metal ! Leather is complete and a Rare Survivor from the period.
Will fit any 7/8 inch wide blade from 16 to 18 inches long ! It fits short model "1819 Hall", model "1840" and model "1842" Bayonets.
These .69 cal. musket bayonets were still in limited use during the Indian Wars and the scabbards replaced the Old All Leather Fragile types from the Civil War !
Painted metal scabbard retains about 70% original black. Has a small normal drain hole at bottom of tip for rain water.
The scabbard is 18 1/2 inches long. There is a gentle bend 2 3/4 inches up from the bottom of the tip.
