French René Lalique Art Glass Perfume Bottle Art Deco Etched Signature 1924

112712-1/RL-461

This is a French René Lalique art glass perfume or cologne bottle with the original stopper. The etched signature on the bottom dates the bottle to 1924.

The bottle is 3 ½" high to the top of the stopper and 3" wide at the belly.

The glass is clear and the exterior is satin. The outside of the bottle and the stopper have bumps tipped with a drop of black enamel. The bumps are larger around the belly and graduate to a smaller size towards the neck and bottom.

The rim and bottom are polished flat.

The etched signature on the bottom is the more rare one used in 1924, in a type of script, with R Lalique above and France below, with the "F" and "r" in France looking different, and a little "o" attached to the "L" in Lalique, and the words slightly slanted. I put the bottle over a yellow color when I photographed the signature to get it to show up more distinctly and then enhanced the contrast. Etched signatures on glass tend to rub down with age when the signature is on the bottom.

The bottom of the stopper has a chip that I show in two photos, pointing to it in red. The bottom has age wear. The stopper has two mold lines that are visible in at least one photo and are not cracks. There are no other flaws.

This is a perfume bottle from 1924, not one designed in 1924 and produced at a later date. It is an important distinction.
