German Tielsch Coffee or Tea Pot & Creamer w a Polish Scene of Congress of Gnieźnieński in Gnesen c 1900 - 1934

111312-1/RL-442

This is a German C. Tielsch & Co hard paste porcelain coffee or tea pot with a matching creamer. The date is the first part of the 20th century, circa 1900 to 1934.

The pot and matching cream or milk pitcher have scattered flowers over a white glaze. The sides of the pot and the front of the creamer have a brown shaded landscape scene depicting the town, street and building where the Congress of Gnieźnieński took place, in the town of Gnesen, back around the year of 1000, and a source of pride to the citizens of Poland; in German it is known as the Congress of Gniezno, a meeting that took place between the Polish Duke Boleslaw Chrobry and Emperor Otto III. I am not saying this is how it looked in the year 1000, but where the Congress took place.

The scenes and flowers are a transfer, not hand painted. The flowers are pretty – morning glories, daisies, roses and other blossoms, all in colors of red, yellow, blue, green and purple.

The maker is Tielsch, who also had a factory in Poland, and the pot and creamer could have been produced in this factory.

The pot is 8" high to the top of the finial and 7 1/2" wide from spout-to-handle. The cream pitcher is 4 ¼" high and 4" wide including the handle.

There are no chips, nicks, cracks or crazing.

The green underglaze mark is the eagle with the letters C.T. below. Both pieces have the same mark.
