This is a set of five English Colclough artist hand painted and signed hard paste porcelain cups and saucers. The age is the post WW II, the mid-20th century, 1945 to 1948.
The maker is in the Staffordshire region.
The saucers are 5 5/8" and the cups or mugs are 2 7/8" by 3 1/8".
Each cup and saucer is signed by the artist in black enamel. The signature reads as "F.M. Bracom." The painting is of high quality, equivalent to the best of the artists in the decorating studios.
The handle of each cup is trimmed in gold. The rims of the cups and saucers are also trimmed in gold. The inside of each cup has a different color luster.
The first cup and saucer shows a wreath of beautiful red poppies against a green and blue shaded background. The leaves are green and brown. The poppies wind around the top of the cup and the rim of the saucer. Another poppy is painted inside the cup. The insides of the poppies are painted in raised enamel. The luster inside the cup is yellow. The colors are bright and vibrant. Gold enamel showcases the flowers on the rim side.
The second cup and saucer show glorious dahlias in pink and lavender against a shaded ground of green, blue and brown. The luster inside the cup is pink. Inside the cup are painted lines in black.
The third cup and saucer has beautiful purple and white violets. The middles are yellow enamel in raised relief. The ground is green, cream and brown. Inside the cup at the top is a band of lavender color. The luster is cream.
The fourth cup and saucer shows clumps of ripe red currants. The ground is blue and red. The leaves are green and brown. Another clump of berries are painted inside the cup. The luster is yellow.
The fifth cup and saucer show pink and white apple blossoms with yellow middles. The middles are painted in raised detail. The ground is black enamel. Another pink blossom is inside the cup. The luster is pink.
There are no chips, cracks or crazing. There are tiny bumps in the porcelain in a few spots around the edges, and it was covered in gold by the artist.
Each piece shows the green mark of Colclough Genuine Bone China Made in England. The artist's signature is next to each maker's mark on the underside of each piece.
