Wonderful basket from the Hooper Bay area of Alaska and attributed to the Cup'it group. This fine basket, circa post WWII, measures 8-3/4" tall with the lid and it is 9" wide. The opening is 6-1/2" and there are @ 12 coils per inch. Basket is made from grass harvested along the Yukon River and the colored areas are made of dyed seal gut. There is some fading to the seal gut as well as typical wear from a basket of this age as shown. The basket would truly benefit from humidity as it has dried somewhat over the years. Will make the perfect addition to your collection.
