Bio. Henry Thomas Mitchell was a most important artist and decorator. He was a medalist of both the Paris and Vienna Exhibitions (1867, 1873). Celebrated as an animal and landscape painter his splendid works are remarkable for their finish, their delicacy of treatment and their peculiar purity and beauty. Queen Victoria was so impressed with the superb beauty of Michell's plate sets that she purchased sets for both Balmoral and Sandringham castles and established royal commissions of his plates for the marriages of the members of the Royal family.
