Dutch Watercolor, Willem Steelink II (1856 - 1928)

A fabulous watercolor from Dutch artist Willem Steelink II (1856 - 1928) "Sheppard Tending His Flock". This work exceptionally well executed with fine detail and marvelous color, displays the idolized pastoral scenes of the countryside and it's life therein. The faces of his animals well executed are so exceptionally expressive, so well done..this rare understanding and love for nature and animals through observation is magically expressed through his genre.

Willem Steelink II, was known as a specialist painter of animals and landscapes. The son of the famed artist William Steelink I, was born in Holland, where he studied with his famous father and at the Academies of Amsterdam and Antwerp, and became extremely well known for his marvelous landscapes of figures, cattle and sheep. "Willy" as he is remembered, remained a prolific painter throughout his long career, his landscapes and animals becoming very much sought after. His exceptional work can be found in many museums, public galleries and private collections today.
