It is a pleasure to present for sale this very lovely painting of a sweet faced young child entitled "Early Morning" by the American artist and portraitist George W.Chambers. This is George W. Chambers at his poetic best for he has beautifully captured the essence of the child standing shyly holding on to the branches as she emerges into view.
George W. Chambers was born in St Louis, Missouri in 1857 and lived in Nashville,Tennessee. He studied in Paris, France with Jean Leon Gerome in 1882, and was well known for his splendid impressionistic oil paintings of landscapes and portraiture. This exquisite portrait of a beautiful child standing in a lush landscape features his exceptionally fine brushwork with intricate details of soft color and light that are typical of the type of work for which George W. Chambers is best known.
This Oil on Board is signed in the lower right, it's provenance is from the well respected Dominion Gallery of Montreal ..see a Verso.
Mr. Chambers work was shown at many exhibitions including The Art Institute of Chicago, Numerous Paris Salons and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.
This lovely work is housed in it's original exquisite 200 year old Antique Rococo frame and bears a brass plaque with the title of the work and George W. Chambers name.
