Paula Eliasoph an extremely collectable artist, was particularly admired for her etchings. This etching on paper, one of her most famous, is set under glass in the most exquisite Antique frame measuring 19 1/2" x 13 1/2." This fine example from Paula, captures the very essence of the child as she views herself in the mirror, her mood wistful, a touch flamboyant, yet delicate, she knows that she is ready.... True to it's artistic form is at once absorbed, with patterns of movement and light reflected in her delicate face framed in curls, and dance costume set in swirls of paint, the result, a three dimensional "Little Dancer" enveloped within the context of her imagination.
From the private collection of the famed and well respected Dominion Gallery, Montreal , Canada, this is the perfect Eliasoph, as this is a most famous and charming example of her work. Measuring 13 1/4" x 7 1/4" , it is fully inscribed and dated in pencil "The Little Dancer, By Paula Eliasoph"," Paula Eliasoph 1936".
Born in New York in 1895, Paula was an artist of the American School of Art. Well known on the 20th-century arts scene, Paula Eliasoph was known as one of the most prominent women artists of her era, especially during the 1920s and '30s. A special celebration of her work was held March 2012 at a reception in her honor "Paula Eliasoph: Rediscovery of a Post-Impressionist" at the Perk Gallery at the Pequot Library, Fairfield, Connecticut. It featured a marvelous collection of her oil paintings, watercolors, drypoint etchings and drawings.
