Thank you Karl...
This is a most EXCEPTIONAL EARLY PARIAN Pedestal Urn and Cover decorated in high relief. Creamy white in color, without blemish, and having a strong resemblance to marble, as it suggested to Victorian, England ......elegance, opulence and wealth.
. This magnificently and exceptionally detailed Pedestal Urn is a most delicate Parian sculpted piece, exquisitely modeled .... possessing wonderful high relief decoration of a figural group of Bacchantes gathering floral, fruit and vines for their many exquisite floral decorations. The handles, large clusters of fruit and flowers, support a truly magnificent lid of a Large Putti, with very large cornucopia in each hand, sitting among the foliage, fruit and flowers
When the lid is removed the interior surface of the Vase shows a clean creamy white interior with no breaks or blemishes, just the usual kiln marks.
This great attention given to detail makes this covered urn extremely valuable, as this was a complicated, lengthy and expensive process that put multiple figures together using dozens of different molds each one for a different Putti body...each one assembled with the greatest of care ...without seams, over- lapping or missing sections or parts... just exquisite!
. Mark; Impressed "Copeland" at the base of Urn,.
This is the mark of an earlier Copland work, (Circa 1840-1860) which makes it highly collectable... for the connoisseur of exceptional Parian.
Condition; Excellent; ...a barely visible old and very minor restoration to one wing, a tiny age related chip on the platform base ( shown in photo). .. neither effect the value or beauty of this exceptional piece.... as they are commensurate with a piece of this vintage.
Size; 16.1" Height, 9+" Width (cluster handle to handle)
