This is Bru's earliest Bebe, a petite and adorable Brevete. She is the very smallest size, and she has the earliest Brevete body. She has a perfect bisque head, and she is fully dressed in all antique clothing, including dress, camisole, slip, bloomers, stockings, shoes, and hat. She has a wonderful antique mohair wig and her necklace and earrings are a matched set. Flexible layaway plans are available. Contact me to discuss your options. Here are her details:
Head: Her pale pressed bisque head and shoulderplate are perfect with no cracks, chips, or hairlines. Her paperweight eyes are pale blue with a dark outline. The upper lid has a black outline. Her closed mouth is shaded and lightly outlined and there is a narrow white space between her lips. She is correctly marked 5/0. She wears a wonderful antique blond mohair wig. It is Rembrandt style with bangs and a center medallion. It has tiny red ribbon bows and appears to be in the original set. The condition is excellent. She retains her original cork pate. Signs of wear: some very light rubbing - there is no rub on her lower lip - that is just camera flash. Factory imperfections: scattered speckling.
Body: The Brevete was produced for a very short period of time, 1879 – 1880, and the bodies evolved over this period. This doll has the earliest Brevete body, which was modeled after the Bru poupee, with U-shaped stitching on the lower torso, square-cut neckline over the shoulderplate, and gussets at all joints including elbows. (The next body version had no gussets at the elbow, and the last version evolved into the body commonly found on the Circle Dot Bebe.) She has beautiful Bru bisque hands with one chipped pinky. Her body has overall age wear, but no patching or repairs.
Clothes: She is fully dressed in wonderful all antique clothing of the period. This smallest-sized bebe was offered for sale in unders, shoes, and socks, so her burgundy wool dress could certainly be her original hand-stitched owner-made dress. Underneath she wears a matched set of half-slip and bloomers that appear to be factory and original to her. She also wears a crocheted camisole. She has nice antique brown leather tie shoes with large rectangular toe buckles. Her wonderful tall stockings are brown with cream stripes. She has a great matching burgundy straw hat decorated with silk fabric and red flowers. Finally, she has a matched necklace and earrings set, with turquoise-colored and gold-colored beads and dangling gold hearts. Her clothing has some mending and small holes but overall the condition is very good for their advanced age. Everything fits her perfectly.
