12.5" Sonneberg Belton-Type ~ 6 Layers Antique Clothing

This beautiful German bisque girl has a perfect flattened dome head with three stringing holes. She is all-antique, wearing six layers of clothing, nice leather shoes, and her original wig. Her original Sonneberg body retains all the original finish. Her bright blue spiraled eyes are amazing!Layaway is always an option. Please contact me to discuss terms. Here are the details:

Head: Her bisque head is perfect with no cracks, chips, or hairlines. Her paperweight eyes are especially fine. They are the brightest blue with dark blue rims and they are deeply spiraled. She has a closed mouth with generously outlined lips. Her ears are pierced directly into her head in the early manner. She is marked simply 106 high at the back of her head. Her antique blond mohair wig is probably original. Factory imperfections: some scattered speckles. Signs of wear: a teensy eyebrow rub.

Body: Her original composition and wood Sonneberg body is in excellent aged condition. There are some tiny paint chips and minor age wear. The finish is entirely original with no repairs or repainting. Nice!

Clothes: She is beautifully dressed in six layers of antique/original clothing. She wears a red wool cape with black trim and matching hat. Her white cotton dress gathers at the high waist and closes in back with a pin (originally sewn shut). Underneath, she wears four layers of unders - her tan wool winter half-slip with red knit trim, her cotton half-slip, her full length chemise, and her bloomers. The summer slip and bloomers are a matched set. Finally she wears knit stockings and nice antique white leather lace up shoes. Everything fits perfectly and everything is in excellent aged condition.

Historical Note: These dolls with flattened solid-dome heads are commonly referred to as Belton-types. Many collectors have assumed that the term was intended to refer to Louis Desire Belton, and since the time frame does not fit, have labeled the term a misnomer. While I agree that the term likely does not refer to Louis Desire Belton, I have seen no evidence to suggest that the term was ever intended to refer to him. Certainly there were many with the name Belton, and so it is entirely possible that the term has some other factual basis that is simply unknown to us at this time.
