Fine collection of early Western and other cancelled checks with outstanding engraved artwork.
There are roughly 40 checks from banks of the likes of Virginia City & Carson City Nevada. A early 1839 check from the U.S. Ship Sarah Shcape? to the Steamboat Hercules dated July 24 1839. The check from Virginia City,Nevada is from the Savage Mine dated May 1st of 1866. There are checks with rather large amounts of money, early tax revenue stamps found during the Civil War and checks from Cigar Stores,Sea Captains,Military etc...
The artwork on many of these checks makes we wonder why we cannot in the 21st century match or better.
Fine collection in every respect.
