You are viewing a hand colored salt print photograph of Mr. David Wagner Deshler which was obtained many, many years at an estate sale on eastern Long Island,New York. There is an inscription on the verso that reads: David Wagner Deshler settled in Columbus, Ohio in the (year) 1717... Drove with his young wife, Betsy Green Deshler from Easton, PA. in their own carriage. He bought the land the hotel stands on. Betsey died when their son William was 7 days old.
This is the same land and gentleman that the famous Deshler Hotel in Columbus, Ohio was built on. The photograph was tinted by the famed DeVos Gallery of Chicago and measures 10' x 12 inches.
This is a historically important item for any Ohio collector.
