A Philadelphia Wedding February 15 1859

I collected this romantic Wedding Grouping a few years ago from a friend and had placed it in my personal collection. The story consist of two 1/9th plate early albumen portraits of a young couple on their wedding day in Philadelphia in the year 1859 when the only bachelor to win the Presidential office was James Buchanan.

The invitation that was folded behind the images stated that this couple identified as (Levi Abb.) was married in the city of brotherly love on Tuesday,February the 15th at 3 O'clock in the year of 1859.

The invitation is addressed to one Mr. Felix Shloss and Miss G.Joseph and Mr. & Mrs.Joseph & Miss Hahn's Compliments to one; Levi App. ???

In this grouping there are two early 20th century photographs of the same couple far advanced in years but still holding their wedding vowels in countless years and undying love.

I would like to point out that 1/9th cases are unusual as they are brilliantly handmade out of paper-mache' as opposed to thermo-plastic as all 19th century photographic cases were made.

It is difficult to believe such definitions of devotion have survived over 140 years.
