RARE Page from the Gutenberg Bible Given to Allied Commander

A scarce facsimile of the beginning of the Gospel of St. John from the 42 line Bible printed in Mainz 1452-1455. This scarce example was given to the U.S.Allied Forces Commander one Col. J.Paul Breden in Occupied Germany in the year 1955, which was the 500th anniversary of the Gutenberg Bible. What certainly makes this page unique is that it was printed from the original printing press and naturally what makes it even more fascinating is the above stated providence.

A superb piece for any better collection. 11 1/4" x 14 1/2 inches.
