Fresh from a large collection of early documents and manuscripts is this 1833 Postmaster General's appointment of Salathial Stone the new postmaster for Stokes County,North Carolina. The appointment requires Stone to deliver mail from Germantown to Salem,N.C. What is interesting about this appointment outside of it being a rarely found southern post is the history behind the assistant postmaster general. As noted on the cover this assistant general fought under General Andrew Jackson in 1815 and he carried General Scott off the battlefield when wounded. This appointment including dozens more being listed were purchased from Peter Kenedi of Sherman Oaks, California back in the 1970's.
It is of importance to note the life of Salathial Stone can be researched through the various search engines with much interest.
In conclusion this stampless cover is a great addition to any collection of North Carolina history.
