Collection of Tarport,Pa. Oil Boom Town Stereoviews

A scarce grouping of four large( 4" 3/4 x 7 inch ) stereo views that date from the 1860's through the early 1870's showing the ghost town of Tarport,Pennsylvania during it's oil boom zenith. There are exceptional early views in particular showing a street scene in what had to be a rough and dangerous Tarport. These are unpublished views as far as I know. Examine the view showing the oil drilling towers which reach as far as the eye can see that literally devour the landscape. What an environmental challenge of epic proportions this must have been during this time. There is another view that shows a parade in downtown Tarport which appears some dignitary or politician is approaching.

In closing an exceptional group of stereoviews from a region that is once again seeing another oil boom
