Several years ago I purchased a collection of Australian artifacts and art from a retired U.S.Army Officer who spent his tour as part of the units that guarded Australia and New Zealand during World War 2. He collected local native art during this time and brought back this graphic wood carving. The piece measures 8" x 34 inches and is hand carved showing a montage of natives performing some form of tribal human sacrificial or execution. Certainly not a scene of great comfort. Wish I knew more about this piece so please excuse my ever flowing ignorance. Intricately carved on a naturally red toned hard wood.
