1830-40 Noah North or Milton Hopkins Michigan Portraits

Both artist imitated the work of the accomplished folk artist Ammi Phillips, who painted in the Connecticut and Albany, New York, from 1811-1865. Noah North (1809-1880) worked chiefly in the western counties of New York State. His work is similar to that of Milton Hopkins (1789 to 1844) who was also from that region, but later moved to Ohio.

Uriah Beach married Maria Gerald Westcott in New York and moved to Manchester,Michigan where both lived out their lives. Uriah according to genealogical research was born in Vermont and Maria was born August 26th 1806 in Butler,New York. He was listed as a furnace man and molder in the Manchester,Michigan census. They adopted several children along the way. Children's names kept changing with each census search. Around 1870 Uriah died and was buried in Manchester,Michigan. Maria died in the 1880's.
