19th C. Florida Folk Art Snake & Gator Carved Cane

A robust stick, single piece of American Cypress/hardwood with natural rounded knob. One side has a wonderful carved green tree snake pursuing a diminutive Florida Alligator. Great balance and carving with natural finish throughout cane. Snake still retains original green wash. Dates from the mid 1800's and is likely African-American.Total length 37".

One of the best southern folk art canes I have owned.
