This is an antique oil painting on canvas that is exceptionally executed by a trained artist. It is signed Bastida in the lower right hand corner. The lady I bought this from is named Mary Carmen. A local highly gifted listed artist and herself in Who's Who among American artist. Her father bought this painting in an antique shop in the 1940's in Spain. The lady whom sold it to him told him that the painting was done by Jose Sorolla Bastida; which of coarse it is not. Mary brought the painting back with her when she became an American citizen nearly 50 years ago. The painting was housed in a period frame until it fell apart in transportation. Mrs. Carmen had it placed in a temporary frame until she could find a frame suitable for it's importance. I bought the painting from Mary here in St. Augustine,Florida directly from her storage unit on a bright sunny winter afternoon. She sold the painting along with other personal items that afternoon as we spoke at great length about her life. Mary is recovering from a major stroke and is doing just fine. Driving and working again. And most importantly, painting again. This painting measures 19" x 28 inches and was done by a qualified artist named Bastida. Whether it was by the the famed artist with the similar last name is likely very unlikely. What I do know it was sold to me by a honest lady who lived a honest life.
