Antique Victorian Sterling Hem Gauge

Approximately 100 years old, this hem gauge is unmarked with the manufacturer's name, but is clearly marked on the back “Pat Oct 2 1894”, “sterling” and the number “2”.

It is 4-1/4 inches long, and in lovely condition, showing a slide with a splendid design of florals and scrolls. I have not polished it, leaving that for the new owner to decide. These do not show up frequently, and it is a wonderful find for a sewing collector.
