Old large reliquary crucifix cross from a Nuns rosary. This cross has had the Corpus of Christ removed, with part of the wood on the left also, possibly by accident. The locking screw is present and in working order. On the back of the cross is a plaque reading Souvenir St Anne De Beaupre, which is where the crucifix originated without the relics inside. This cross opens by sliding one piece sideways, and we see labels for St Anne, S. Therese L'E Jesus (Therese of Lisieux), and S. Gerard M (Gerard Majella). At the bottom under the labels is a small object that we think is an Agnus Dei or it may be the relic for St Gerard as we do not feel anything under his label, but we can feel something under the other two labels. the way they are attached we can not see under those two. We have had this in our collection for a long time , and it is a very very old crucifix. We love it the way it is, but if you desired a piece of wood could be cut to inlay in the open area, and a Corpus could be acquired from another crucifix to attach to this one. The cross measures 3 & 1/4" long including the bale and locking screw, and it is 1 & 3/8" across. There are two beads from the old rosary with chain still attached as it was when we acquired this from France many years ago.
