Offering for sale a very old reliquary with lovely figure of the Infant Jesus, the Baby Jesus. This figural relic is made of wax and other materials unknown, more on that later. He is nestled in a bed of cotton with some little snowflake shapes surrounding Him., all of this under glass. On the other side is a paper square with a print of possibly St Joseph, not sure; and another print of Jesus carrying His cross. There may be "something" under these prints, this reliquary does not open, it has been sealed, but often the type of print as seen here would be above or on top of some type of relic. No way of knowing. Now as to the baby on the other side, we acquired this from a fellow antique dealer who travels a lot and has some special people she buys from in Mexico. She said you no longer find these very often for sale, but typically there is a figure of wax into which often are crumbled small particles of bones, holy ash, ashes, etc from Saints or religious observances. Again, no way to know what is in the wax if anything. This figure of the Baby Jesus is amazing in detail, even to the curly hair ! This is an old piece, and over the years He has pressed some against the glass, which you see in the photos. The reliquary itself is a silver metal which resembles sterling but believed to be a fine metal of other content. This rare and wonderful piece measures 2 & 3/8" tall including the bale and is in nice condition, no cracks in the glass either..
