Offering for sale a fabulous and rare antique holy water font. This features the finest champleve enamel work on white marble, mounted on fine heavy brass with hanging loop in back. Below is the matching champleve bowl which still has the original lid, and enamel inside as well. This alone would be special enough, but even rarer is the center of this piece; a beautiful cameo miniature painting of, hand painted porcelain scene of a Holy Communion, with shiny gold background, the Priest in fine red and gold robes, the young man on his kneeler receiving the Eucharist, and behind a Holy Angel. This rare piece is from the 1800's, probably French, and in very good condition, we see two places on the marble that have a minor chip, see photo for example. The piece is 7 & 1/2" tall, 4 & 3/8" wide; with the center cameo art piece measuring 1 & 3/4" tall. Notice the wonderful brass frame surrounding the porcelain with lovely touches of brilliant dark blue enamel. A very fine and important piece, both for the beauty of the champleve work on the font as well as the very fine art in the miniature cameo.
