Offering for sale a really interesting old piece of eastern metalwork. I bought this from a friend from India, who acquired it from an older gentleman from India. It is of brass or bronze, very heavy for the size, and features a center figure or a yogi, Shiva or Buddha, somewhat Tibetan in style, elephants on the sides, a water vessel on the top and other symbols and decorations. There are no markings as to country of origin, which would be expected for a piece such as this. She said this would have been used on an altar or behind a statue of importance. It has an unusual shaped piece on the back for mounting or some other function. It is 6 & 1/2" tall and 7 & 1/4" wide and in very good condition with the usual wear from years of being loved and used. A very unusual piece of eastern art.
