Carved Chinese Bi Disc
Offering for sale a huge Chinese Bi; a carved round disc often buried for luck in crossing over or protection; and may have had other ceremonial uses. This one is from circa 1900, and we believe it is not jade but is red brown chalcedony, extremely heavy for the size. On both sides a very unusual design, looks almost Egyptian in style; and we think it is a stages of life design possibly, a woman with child, then a warrior, then an old man; above possibly heaven with doves, below a sea of fish and dragons. This piece is 11 & 5/8" across, with the center hole 3/4" across, and the piece is 1/4" thick. We acquired this from a long time collector of Chinese jade and carved hard stone, he also believes it to be chalcedony. Great decorator piece
