Old Chinese Roof Tile Qwan Yin Buddha Woman Glazed Pottery
Offering for sale a fabulous and very old roof tile from China. This one is an Oriental female figure, possibly a Buddha or Qwan Yin; made of a very heavy pottery or stone wear material. It has a lustrous rich glaze reminiscent of majolica in tones of green, blue and gold, possibly the Chinese sanchi glaze, with the typical concave base which fitted on the roof and a hole in the bottom center for attachment. It is in good structural condition with the exception of the neck, this has been broken in the past, but is still attached to the body by I assume a wire inside, and could actually be re-glued, we will leave this repair to the new owner. there is some natural unglazed places which are original, some minor hairlines in the glaze only especially on the robes, mild overall wear.. She stands 14 & 7/8" tall, 5 & 1/8" front to back and 6 & 1/8" wide. These old roof tiles still attached to their bases are extremely hard to find in any condition, and although certainly not perfect, a really beautiful item for the collector and a great decorator accent for your home. This came from a very fine estate of a couple that traveled the world; there were more treasures in this home than I am used to seeing especially from the Orient.
