Offering for sale a pair of cloth dolls from India. Both are cloth bodies well stuffed. The lady is wearing a red cotton sari, in Southern India wrap style, a yellow blouse, gold zari bracelets, earrings, anklets, necklace and nose ring. Her black thread hair is in a braid in back. She is 10 & 1/2" tall . The man is wearing natural cotton pant and shirt, and royal blue cotton head wrap. He also has hand painted and embroidered facial features and is 12" tall. Both are in good condition with minor wear from age. We acquired this set, along with some others also for sale here in our shop, from a local antique dealer who was a volunteer or employee in the past at a local center that was originally a Methodist college that trained missionaries who mostly went to India. These dolls were originally a gift to one or more of the missionary workers to be given to the school for their museum, some in the group were made especially for the school, others probably bought as gifts. The school is now a retreat center, and they sold these as museums often do when their collections become too large to manage, over the years they were probably given a lot of gifts from the countries they helped. These have been in a smoke free environment.
