Offering for sale two lovely miniatures. A Ruby Lane customer has informed us these are of Madame Dugazon (left) and Madame or Princess Elizabeth (Louis XVI Sister) on the right. We acquired these from a local antiques dealer who represented these as paintings on ivory, but we think they could actually be a transfer process with hand painted highlights, possibly on ivory or could be a celluloid material, just not sure. Since the time we acquired these, another seller here on Ruby Lane had a very similar pair for sale, which sold for twice what we are asking and they were described as paintings on ivory. These are believed to be European, possibly Italian. These both are signed, but the signatures hard to make out. We normally would open most art to inspect, but the way these are framed would cause the possibility of damaging them to do so. Each of the miniatures is framed under a slight bubble glass with brass frame, and this is attached onto a black velvet backing, which itself is framed in the large ornate gold frame, also sealed on the back. The art is quite lovely, with delicate details, and white highlights on the flowers and laces of the garments. The cameo in the small brass oval measures 3 & 1/2" tall and 2 & 3/4" across; and the large frame measures 7 & 1/2" by 8". Both are in wonderful condition with little wear and no damage. Price is for the pair.
