What a find! It is pretty rare to find a silver grapefruit server / holder at all, much less a matching set of eight! These are find heavy silver plate, marked on the bases RSPC (for Rockport Silver Plate company), JG with a crown (we think a Jewelers Guild marking) and EPGS (silver plate quality mark) plus 2562, the stock marking for this piece. The lovely holder has six curved "arms" to support the fruit, and the top revolves smoothly as you cut and eat. The base has a gentle bowl shape to catch all tha lost juice. Just an amazing idea, and even more amazing is how few they made of these. Given the weight and quality of the piece, they were probably expensive to make even back then and probably a luxury that few could afford. Each holder is marked and all are matching. And when not being used to serve the grapefruit, these could also be used to hold those lovely round designer candles, or other serving or decorating uses. Each server measures 5 & 3/8" across at the base, with a 4 & 1/4" diameter at the top of the holder; and the entire piece is 3 & 1/4" tall. These eight are in very good condition with mild age wear only, they do not appear to have had a lot of use. We have never had one of these before, let alone eight; and frankly won't see them anytime soon again. Lovely patina to the silver, we polished these lightly for the photos.
