Lovely antique Dresden porcelain sugar bowl with lid and matching underplate. It features a maroon red main color with white,, shiny gold touches all over, plus top applied white dots accenting in many areas. On each side of the bowl is a lovely cameo portrait, which appears to be hand painted of a courting couple in two different scenes in a lovely gold accented cartouche. The bowl has the original lid with gold finial and has lovely elegant raised handles. The gold applied decorations are lovely. The sugar bowl is in good condition with no cracks or repairs, no major issues other than mild age wear on the finish, little if any wear on the art and important areas. The underplate is included as a gift with the bowl, as it has been broken in the past with five places re-glued, although amazingly when resting under the sugar, this does not show. The underplate measures 5 & 1/2" across. The sugar bowl measures 2 & 1/2" across at the base of the foot, 6" across at the handle tips, and is 4 & 7/8" tall with the lid in place. On the bottom of both pieces it is marked "Dresden" in slight script, and above a triangle with either an "H" or a "TC". This is an old piece, belonged to the grandmother of a friend.
