Lovely vintage charger , cabinet plate or portrait plate, in the Royal Vienna style at the least, with burgundy red background color and a center rectangular cameo of partially nude ladies , roses, a pond with swans, lovely colors and fine details, brush strokes are visible. The platter itself is approximately 17 & 1/4" long and 12 & 1/4" tall; the overall framed size is 20" by 19 & 1/2". The porcelain is marked on the back with blue beehive mark and "Johamisbad". The art cameo is signed at the lower edge Knoeller. We found only a few auction records for similar pieces signed by this artist, they sold quite high; interestingly no date or age was given in the auction catalogs, with the porcelain being represented as Royal Vienna. The very term Royal Vienna brings many issues, the true old pieces are very rare to find, and many pieces have been made since then in varying degrees of artistic merit. We do not know the age of this piece, we think it is not the very old original work, but is also not "new". We acquired this from a fine estate of a fine art collector and at least 90% of his estate was antiques. What we do know is that the cameo art of the ladies is fabulous, with rich colors and fine details; worthy of being framed for display. The light area on the border upper left looks like wear, but frankly we think it was done this way on purpose, as it would make no sense for there to be wear in that area. We see no cracks or chips, minor wear only. It is in a frame that appears to have been made for this platter; the end trim on the frame mirrors the end decorations on the platter, and there is a nice gold gilt finish on wood and possibly other materials. We see some cracking in the frame that could be from age, or again could be original. Beautiful piece in lovely condition, we think worth a lot more than we are asking.
