Offering for sale a beautiful antique inkwell on stand in heavy ornate brass. This piece comes to us from England, from the 1800's. It features a one piece design with very ornate tray with gently curved edges including two faux handles and large openwork areas. The inkwell even more ornate metalwork with attached hinged lid; the interior lined in metal and appears to be all original. I love the acorn style finial on the lid and the unique decorations as well. Very Art Nouveau influence, remembering that the nouveau movement was much earlier in Europe than here in America; and many of the antique accessory pieces showed elements from several design areas. The tray area measures 6 & 3/4" across and the entire piece is almost 4 & 1/2" tall. The lid on the well does not close down tightly, we will leave this to the new owner to attend to, it did not bother us at all. We also have not polished the brass any more than when we bought it. This is a very heavy piece for the size and although unsigned was surely made by one of England's finest metal artists or companies.
