Offering for sale a rare and wonderful antique glass dome hinged to original platform. This piece is from England, 19th Century. It features the platform of wood painted black; and the frame of the bottom of the glass dome also wood painted black. On the base decorations of a white material; we are not sure what it is, in rectangular shapes; and matching circular ones on the dome frame. The glass dome is the original old glass , thick, strong and with a few tiny "bubbles". The platform is 5 & 1/4" across, the dome glass is approximately 3" across on the inside, and the piece is approximately 5" tall. It is in very good overall condition, minor wear; on the bottom of the base there is a hole that goes through to the inside, indicating possibly a clock or other electric device might have once been inside this; and three other holes where we think there may have originally been some of those tiny wooden balls or feet that always break off or fall out over time. It sits perfectly flat, so there is no need for any repair or addition. The inside of the base is lined with royal blue material similar to a fuzzy felt. The hinge is secure also, what a wonderful design, one of the reasons why this old dome has survived when so many other had broken glass.
