Offering for sale a beautiful antique English papier mache wall holder for magazines or letters, circa 1890's or earlier ! It features the back panel with a hinged flap with decorative cut outs suspended at top with cords. The background color is a very interesting red and black. On the front flap are four areas with decorations of cherubs, and on the back panel a beautiful scene with a courting couple in elegant attire, surrounded by angels and cherubs above and below, flowers on the borders, and a magnificent building in the background with urns and architectural decor. There are two hanging holes at the top for wall mounting this treasure. The lower right hinge has become somewhat un-attached from the back panel and the original owner has wired it on, which does not show at all from the front. The piece measures 11 & 3/4" across and 15 & b3/4" tall. In overall very good condition with no major repairs, no visible cracks, age crackling or crazing, which we find beautiful; it adds to the patina and character of the piece. This came from the collection of a lifetime antiques lover.
