This book was printed by Wm. Stanley Ray, State Printer, Harrisburg, PA during 1915. It is a hard cover and does not have a dust jacket. It has black boards with gold gilt text and graphics on the spine. It measures approximately 9 ½" tall by 6 ¼" wide. It is stamped in front "Compliments of B. I. Evans, Mine Inspector". The title page gives the following information: Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Part I – Anthracite 1914". There is some damage and discoloration to the cover and spine, shelf wear and the corners are slightly bumped. The pages are yellowed from age. The spine is loose. There is some water damage or staining many pages toward the back of the book. There are 614 pages.
This is an interesting historical document full of data and statistics. The book contains a letter of transmittal which reads:
"Department of Mines, April 1, 1915. To His Excellency, Martin G. Brumbaugh, Governor of Pennsylvania. Sir: In compliance with the Act of Assembly of April 14, 1903, I beg to submit herewith, for transmission to the General Assembly, the report of the Department of Mines for the year ending December 31, 1914. Part I covers in detail the operations in the twenty-one Anthracite Districts, Part II the operations in the twenty-eight Bituminous Districts, as returned by the Inspectors. Observations and suggestions are also offered relative to mining subjects. Respectfully submitted, James E. Roderick, Chief of Department of Mines."
