Early Wood Cutlery Tray

This is a nice early cutlery tray also referred to as a knife box, knife and fork tray, flatware tray, knife carrier, silverware tray, spoon box or cutlery box. It was used to hold kitchen utensils. It has a nicely detailed centerboard with a handhold cutout. The wood has a dark stain and is possibly walnut. The sides are lap jointed and the bottom is nailed.

It measures approximately 12" long, 8" wide and 3" high to the top of the centerboard. The depth of the tray is approximately 2 ¼".

The condition is good for its age. It is nice and clean. The centerboard is a little loose from wood shrinkage over the years. The edges of the centerboard and tray are slightly rough from use and wear.
