This two-strand pink sapphire necklace with its unique rhyodacite beads is elegant and luxurious. The two strands feature trios of fabulous sapphires in a lovely luminous pink. I separated the sapphire trios with seven unique four-sided rhyodacite beads framed by small sterling silver bicone beads. Rhyodacite, also known as rhiocite, is quite new to the gemstone market, and it is simply fabulous. The stone combines luminous opalescent inclusions with dusty rose and shades of grey. These fascinating beads compliment the outstanding beauty of the sapphires as well as adding contrast. Tiny sterling silver beads separate the sapphire beads, allowing each bead room to "breathe" and shimmer. The two strands transition to single strands with simple sterling silver bars. The single strands of sapphires are interspersed by tiny silver beads, and a sleek and elegant sterling silver s-hook completes the design.

The matching sapphire earrings feature pairs of sapphires accented with silver bicone beads and tiny silver beads. The sapphires are on separate head pins, allowing movement and a chance for these lovely gemstones to catch the light. The earrings hang from sterling silver French-style earwires and measure 1 ¾ inches from the piercing. The necklace measures 18 ½ inches in length based on the shorter of the two strands.

Sapphires are the "non-red" variety of the gemstone known as Ruby. The sapphire is a precious gem and is the September gemstone. It has been a favored stone throughout time and has adorned the jewelry of royalty dating from at least 2,400 years ago to the present day.
