Carved Goddess with Hummingbirds and Flowers on Vesuvianite and Pearl Necklace

The power of a volcano, the sigh of the sea, and the beauty of a tropical paradise combine forces in this extraordinary necklace.

The focal of the necklace is a hand-carved pendant featuring a woman's face framed by bright blue hummingbirds and pink and yellow tropical flowers against a background of green leaves. The woman's eyes are open, and her lips curve in a slight smile. I chose beautiful faceted vesuvianite beads for the basis of the necklace and alternated them with freshwater water pearls in a light peach. The vesuvianite and the pearls are separated by tiny melon shell heishi beads. An s-type swan toggle completes the design.

The necklace is Matinee length, measuring 23 inches, and the pendant measures 2 ½ inches by 1 3/8 inches. Pearls have been called "teardrops of the moon" and are believed to be the world's oldest gem. Some cultures believe that pearls symbolize purity and spiritual transformation. Vesuvianite is named for Mt. Vesuvius, the location where it was first discovered. This mineral, also known as Idocrase and Vessonite, is formed from volcanic activity. It is believed that vesuvianite aids creativity as well as alleviating negativity and fear. These qualities combined with the sheer beauty of the pendant result in a necklace that is simply extraordinary.

Please Note: The necklaces I create are one of a kind designs. The stones I used to create this necklace are genuine and natural and as such there may be anomalies in shape, size, and color.
