These earrings have been hand-crafted from French 1 Franc coins dated 1969 and 1977. The face of the coins feature Marianne who represents Liberty and Reason and is a national emblem of France. The design depicts her with wind-swept hair dressed in a flowing gown. She does not face outward, but instead leads the viewer toward the sunrise which is lightly etched on the coin. Lady Liberty is encircled with "Republic Francaise." The reverse side of the coin shows an olive branch, the 1 Franc denomination, the date, and the well-known phrase, "liberte, egalite, fraternite." The Franc was the national currency from 1795 until the introduction of the Euro in 1999. The coin measures 23 mm (about 15/16 of an inch) in diameter and hangs 1 5/8 inches from the dangle of the French hook. The silver tones of the coin catch the light and give the figure of Marianne the illusion of movement.
Please note: Because I have created these earrings from authentic vintage coins, there are signs of wear on the coins.
