These earrings have been hand-crafted from French 5 Centimes coins dated 1983 and 1985. Marianne, the French Lady Liberty, is featured in profile with wind-swept hair on the face of the coins. Lady Liberty is framed with the words "Republic Francaise." This lovely and elegant design was created by Henri Langriffoul whose name appears on the coin to the left of Marianne. The reverse side of the coin provides the date, the denomination, and the well-known phrase, "Liberte, egalite, fraternite." The coins, also known as French Francs, are comprised of aluminum-bronze. The Franc is no longer in use as it was replaced by the Euro in 2002.
These are small coins, measuring 11/16 of an inch in diameter and hanging 1 5/8 inches from the piercing of the French hook. They are bright and golden in color, and movement catches the light, making them appear almost luminous. These earrings will be great fun to wear!
Please note: Because I have created these earrings from authentic vintage coins, there are signs of wear on the coins.
