Underneath the Sip Sip Sippy Moon 1923 Vintage Sheet Music
The cover of the vintage sheet music "Underneath the Sip Sip Sippy Moon" simply makes you want to dance! The cover design includes a huge vibrant orange moon accented with blue rings. The blue water and the moon's bright orange reflection are the background for silhouettes of a man with a banjo, people dancing, and couples cuddling. A picture of singer Francis Arms is framed on the cover. Lyrics by Bud Green seem to lack sensitivity and awareness but remind us of a past perspective very much different than the current viewpoint. The Verse states, "I swear nothing compares with Southern nights, Picture the Sippy shore, Picture those smiles galore," and the Chorus provides that glimpse into the past: "Underneath the Sip Sip Sippy moon, Sweet song birds croon. . . . And ev'ry mammy wets her thumb, When the banjos start to strum." The music was written by Ray Henderson and published in 1923 by Shapiro, Bernstein & Company
The sheet music measures 9 ¼ by 12 ¼ inches. This copy is not at all in perfect condition--its value lies in the delightful cover and the difficulty in finding other copies. The cover is separated from the back, a bit of one corner is missing, and there are light scratches, several small tears, and some smudges, but all pages are included. The cover really is wonderful despite any imperfections and would look great in a frame. In addition, it is an excellent pick for the collector because of its historical value.
